"Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature!" - Mark 16:15
Can you imagine the emotions that must have been running though the Disciples minds as Jesus was saying His last goodbyes to them before He ascended into heaven?
The Disciples weren't just acquaintances with Jesus, but they were like family to Him. The disciples followed Him through wildernesses, and they had full faith in Him. Where Jesus went, they went. They walked hand-in-hand with Jesus, and they watched as the Romans crucified Him. They laid His body in the tomb, and mourned over His death. Then all of a sudden, HE'S BACK! Jesus had risen from the dead!
I imagine the Disciples thinking, "He's here to stay." He was back walking before them, and their lives were going to go back to normal. Then Jesus hits them with a curveball, and says that it is time for Him to go meet the Father in Heaven.
"Wait, you're leaving already?" I'd imagine the Disciples saying as fear began to fill their minds about how they can go on without Jesus there with them.
Jesus, knowing their fear, then commissions them to "GO," and share His story with the world. Fast forward 2,000 years, and His story is still being shared across the world. Enough so that you are here reading this devotional and seeking to know God more.
How do you think that you were able to here the Gospel? The commission that Jesus gave the Disciples wasn't just for them, but also for you and me. In Matthew 28, Jesus tells the Disciples, "Teach them to obey everything that I have commanded of you."
If Jesus commanded the Disciples to go and share the good news, then we have that same responsibility to go and share the Gospel with the world!
I know that it sounds scary. Maybe you are telling yourself that you aren't prepared enough for that or that no one would listen to you, but I am here to tell you that that is not for you to worry about.
You don't need to be a "scripture professional" or have gone to Bible college, or have grown up in a Christian household to go and tell the world of the grace that God has given you. All you need to begin is yourself and a heart of surrender to God's will.
When you surrender yourself to God, you give Him the ability to work through you and use you in ways that you would have never imagined for yourself. You will start to notice that your worry about how to begin will turn into awe of the opportunities that God has given you to minister.
Jesus says, "And remember, I am with you each and every day, even until the end of the age." He says that right after commanding the Disciples to go into all of the world. He gives us comfort that even through the doubt and struggle, He is there along with us. All He asks is that you trust Him and obey Him. Go, and trust that God is doing a work through you!
